HAB (Hungarian Art and Business) presents Interwoven – Stories Thread by Thread from April 29 to June 28, 2026. 18 contemporary artists, rugs from five continents – under one roof.
Why we're going – and why we're talking about it
HAB has quietly become one of the most exciting contemporary art spaces near Budapest's City Park. Their new show does exactly what a good exhibition should: it asks, it doesn't lecture.
Interwoven explores how we record and pass on our stories – across cultures and centuries. The answers come through a dialogue between contemporary paintings and historical rugs.
What is the central idea?
How does a community preserve what matters?
The show answers through two materials: paintings (the contemporary perspective) and rugs (an ancient, physical memory in which stories, beliefs and fates are literally woven).
The two media don't compete – they comment on each other.
Who are the artists?
18 contemporary artists are featured, including:
András Bernát
József Csató
Barbara Koltai
Dorottya Kanics
(and additional Hungarian and international artists)
The rugs are from the MYTHOS collection, sourced from Iran, Turkey, Tibet, Peru and Congo.
How is the exhibition structured? – The four sections
The arc of human life – birth, fate, journey
Materiality – texture, the maker's hand, time of making
The world of patterns – repetition, rhythm, sign
Chaos and order – weaving as a metaphor for the order of the world
Both meditative and substantial. You don't need an art history background to be drawn in – the opposite, in fact. It's quiet, generous, and gives you plenty to talk about afterwards.

Tip: pair it with a visit to us
HAB and Csók Bistro are in the same building. It would be a waste not to combine the two programs.
BEFORE the exhibition: come by in the morning for a coffee and a freshly baked pastry to set the tone. Mornings are quiet here – exactly the right pace for a show like this.
AFTER the exhibition: a generous, colourful Csók-style brunch. Talk through what you saw with us at the table.
Art and good food do the same thing: they slow you down and connect you. We're happy to hold the space for that.
